Earthquakes in Turkey
Turkey was one of the most active earthquake zones in the world since a major part of it was located on the Anatolian tectonic plates. This tectonic plate was squeezed toward the west by two tectonic plates – the Eurasian and African, and a minor tectonic plate, the Arabian (See Exhibit I for Turkey and Tectonic Plates).
