Introduction
Sneakers, shoes that originated in England in the 1800s, were used by the British middle class on beach trips. The term sneakers had been used since the 1870s to signify that the shoes made no noise. Its use in sports began in the 1900 Paris Olympic games. Over the years, what had been an athletic accessory became a fashion statement. People started wearing sneakers even on formal occasions. This gave a considerable boost to the sneaker industry, and the USA was the largest market for sneakers globally. But most of the sneakers were manufactured in low-cost manufacturing facilities in China or Vietnam and were later shipped to the USA. Though this offered a lean supply chain to sneaker companies, it also had its challenges, like the increased cost of reverse logistics, high inventory costs, etc..
