On November 1, 2019, Google announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire Fitbit in a US$ 2.1 billion deal. The all-cash deal was sealed with Google having offered US$ 7.35 per share of Fitbit. The acquisition was an attempt by Google to up its game in the healthcare wearables market. In fact, this was not the first time Google had acquired smart watch technology.
