Municipal Solid Waste Management
Municipal Solid Waste was a major concern as it led to environmental degradation. The conventional methods of disposing MSW through landfills and incineration led to the contamination of groundwater and soil and air pollution. With the increase in population, the generation of municipal solid waste was increasing on the one hand while there was scarcity in the availability of land on the other. Due to environmental concerns, the management of municipal solid waste was becoming a challenging task. Developed countries primarily followed three methods for the disposal of municipal solid waste incineration, resource recovery, and landfilling. On the other hand, developing countries followed only landfilling as a primary option for the disposal of the waste. This resulted in a scarcity of land and in environmental degradation and pollution..
