The Shopify Platform

Soon after the launch, Lake left the company and Cody Fauser, a Computer Engineer, joined Shopify as CTO while Daniel Weinand, a freelance web designer for private and corporate clients , joined as the chief design officer. The focus of the new team was to perfect their product.

In 2006, Shopify was formally launched as a tool that sellers could use to build their own online stores. The product was very basic and included essential features to run an online store. It was the first product of its kind where sellers could design their own online stores..

Shopify Features through the Years

In April 2010, Shopify launched Shopify Mobile which allowed sellers to monitor and manage their online stores over their mobile phones . This was at a time when m-commerce was on the rise..


Even though Shopify offered many useful features to e-commerce merchants, there were some criticisms as well of the platform.
